00:01
<Freman>
how does one trigger jpegs vs mpegs (and visa versa)
00:14
<Freman>
aw now that's a neet feature (loop back video)
00:20
<Freman>
hmph, that didn't appear to trigger a capture
00:25
<Freman>
does turning on snapshot disable motion?
00:45
<theBear>
nah, seperate
02:27
<Freman>
wtf thebear
02:27
<Freman>
are you everywhere I am?!?
02:28
<theBear>
i'm just everywhere, i'm all omnipitent and stuff
02:31
<Freman>
this is installed dodgee bro style... extension cable, power brick... hopefully it's all high enough :D
02:34
<theBear>
heh, you should see what i got right now... next 'upgrade' is gonna be a cat5 cable as power + composite vid, maybe with a sneaky termination if things don't look great... i'm quietly confident... a portion of the 4*bt878 card with 16 -> 4 anyway multiplexer goes to a db15hd on the pc, a handy vga cable (cheap, 75ohm coax, works good) goes out to an old vga->bnc adapter i made with hotglue about 10 years ago, then splits out nicely to a few cameras
02:45
<Freman>
I has a 4 way card but no pci slots
02:45
<Freman>
now... I need to find a webcam app for my android that'll stream from motion
02:46
<Criggie>
Freman: any browser should be fine
02:46
<Criggie>
you don't need an app for everything
02:46
<Freman>
nah the browser on this thing tries to download the streaming jpeg
02:46
<theBear>
Freman, try umm. ipcam i think it's called
02:47
<Freman>
lots called that lol
02:47
<theBear>
and firefox on my fancy desirez/vision does my bodged up view-pages as it should, but all other browsers, AND ffox on say, an xperia doesn't view it right
02:47
<theBear>
Freman, oh, you mean backwards
02:47
<theBear>
i thought you wanted the phone to be a ip-cam
02:49
<Freman>
ah this one works
02:49
<Freman>
tinycam monitor free
02:51
<Freman>
http://demo.fremnet.net/cam/
02:51
<Freman>
now a week of focusing
02:51
<Freman>
and I'll be set
02:52
<Freman>
(don't care about the neighbors, trying to catch a ferral cat
02:53
<Freman>
now, all I need is a nice web frontend
02:54
<Freman>
oh and to weed those big things, and mask the rest
02:56
<* Freman>
increases threshold to 2000
02:59
<Freman>
hmmm camera is a bit glitchy (gets fking hot)
03:03
<* Freman>
drops the camera's fps to 10, see if that helps
03:15
<Freman>
righty, mask uploaded see how that goes
03:21
<Freman>
I don't suppose there's a software solition for this glitch? http://demo.fremnet.net/06-20120127181955-00.jpg
03:37
<Criggie>
I've never seen that
03:37
<Criggie>
but then again I hate IP cameras
03:38
<Criggie>
and I only ever used analogue ones
03:38
<Criggie>
are you trying to cover that car too ?
03:38
<Criggie>
or is that your neighbours ?
03:39
<Criggie>
Freman: can people get to the back of your camera without being seen?
03:39
<Criggie>
Freman: I guess you're in Australia ?
03:39
<Criggie>
basing that on timezone
03:39
<Criggie>
-3 hours from me
06:22
<theBear>
yeah, he's a bit east of me
06:23
<theBear>
i know it's not REALLY a motion question, but anyone know off hand an easy way to get a v4l(2) output from a xsession ? maaybe there's a magic virtual fb device or some kinda xprotocol -> v4l converter ?
06:24
<theBear>
if the 'don't stop when screen turns off' would work properly, i'd probably be taking advantage of one phsyically broken/unsuable as a phone android device that's lying around as a remote-always-'charging' cam, but that's more about laziness :)
07:59
<mmm4m5m>
hi all. Is it really true that can't use 2 usb webcams with sheevaplug ? From wiki: "you need to put USB adapter cards. One per camera"
08:00
<mmm4m5m>
both are jpeg Logitech cams
08:02
<theBear>
err, from where in what wiki ? i dunno how fast exactly a sheevaplug is, but from what i know it should be more than enough to handle a couple webcams
08:03
<mmm4m5m>
here: http://
www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/Motion/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#How_do_I_get_Motion_to_work_with_two_or_more_camera_at_a_time_63
08:04
<mmm4m5m>
both cams works separately... but using 2 threads or using 2 motion processes - does not work. Both cams use the same driver - gspca_zc3xx , this is debian wheezy
08:04
<mmm4m5m>
At some point I just get err msgs: [1] v4l2_next: VIDIOC_DQBUF: EIO (s->pframe 2): Input/output error [1] v4l2_next: VIDIOC_QBUF: Invalid argument
08:04
<theBear>
did you read what you just linked ? sounds like it makes perfect sense ...
08:05
<theBear>
and yeah, that sound like what would happen when there was some bottleneck killing the bw for the cam
08:05
<mmm4m5m>
yes I did read it... but I can not add second usb adapter to sheevaplug
08:05
<theBear>
does a sheeva not have two 'real' usb ports ?
08:05
<mmm4m5m>
Hm... I will check now ... it is iOmega iConnect device (similar to sheevaplug)
08:05
<Freman>
Yes people can easily get to the back of that camera, but that's not my concern I'm trying to catch a cat
08:06
<Freman>
the glitch... is cos it's an old and tired camera it appears to be 2 frames...
08:08
<Freman>
if I went analog cameras I'd have to get usb adapters or a whole other box
08:09
<Freman>
might be able to set minimum_motion_frames to 3
08:09
<Freman>
that should cover the glitch
08:42
<Freman>
seems to so far, will wait until tomorrow
08:42
<Freman>
in the mean time, night :D
08:49
<mmm4m5m>
no chance... looks like one real usb (I see only /sys/devices/platform/orion-ehci.0)... It just looks so easy when I read on internet but looks like it is not very easy to make it work nicely :)
08:59
<Freman>
http://
www.dealextreme.com/p/easycap-4-channel-4-input-usb-2-0-dvr-video-capture-surveillance-dongle-11127 - seems like it might be worth a try (ditch the multi-port and only use one so as to not have to multiplex)
08:59
<Freman>
there appears to be support in the kernel
09:00
<Freman>
I have one free pcie1 socket...
09:00
<Freman>
hence, my using ip cameras
09:06
<Freman>
wouldn't mind seeing what's inside this: http://
www.dealextreme.com/p/security-4-channel-real-time-usb-dvr-box-72621
09:11
<Freman>
woohoo, found pci-e cards... lets go google chips
09:19
<Freman>
so what web software is everyone using to overlay their motion installations?
09:26
<Freman>
hmmm not so much yet
09:26
<mmm4m5m>
Freman: EasyCAP is next in my list to try... 1 year ago I did try with Asus router but CPU/RAM was not enough
09:30
<Freman>
easycap looks like it'll 'probably
09:30
<Freman>
' work but it's multiplexing so fps is divided
09:32
<Freman>
have found a couple of usb devices that do run 4 channels at 120+ fps but I can't find any details about their insides
10:14
<mmm4m5m>
For your information: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/1158524 ... but "echo 124 > /sys/devices/platform/orion-ehci.0/uframe_periodic_max" does not work in my case - second webcam always reconnect (I see few pictures and then it reconnect again and again)
11:27
<* mmm4m5m>
... this easycap needs active hub (with power supply) ... now module is missing but nice it is there in kernel config
16:00
<mmm4m5m>
using easycap drivers: "Failed to open video device /dev/video0: Protocol error"
16:28
<mmm4m5m>
Freman: I can't make easycap to work: https://sourceforge.net/projects/syntekdriver/forums/forum/616183/topic/4977984 ... One year ago I had better success using this driver: https://sourceforge.net/projects/easycapdc60/ ...
18:11
<Freman>
the fact that there is work on the driver is a good start
18:11
<Freman>
I can fiddle and get it to work
18:11
<Freman>
(I worked on the dvico drivers)
18:12
<Freman>
motion does it use binary or ascii pgm masks, I don't think my binary mask is working
18:15
<Freman>
http://demo.fremnet.net/cam/mask.png converted version of my mask
18:22
<Freman>
I really want this card to work: http://
www.dealextreme.com/p/4-channels-pci-ex-surveillance-security-audio-video-monitoring-capture-card-101871
18:38
<Freman>
so, from what I understand, motion doesn't actually currently support multiple sources, one has to use multiple motions right?
18:41
<Criggie>
Freman: I don't know about that card
18:43
<Freman>
Criggie: I do, it's not in the kernel ;)
18:43
<Criggie>
Freman: however I guarantee this one does work
18:43
<Criggie>
I have one and its perfect
18:44
<Criggie>
needs good cooling is all
18:44
<Criggie>
so you fit http://
www.dealextreme.com/p/aluminum-alloy-chipset-heatsinks-for-pc-memory-chips-8-hsk-set-15361
18:45
<* Criggie>
returns to work
18:45
<Freman>
except my issue is, no more pci slots
18:49
<* Freman>
wonders if he can shuffle other cards around, another pci-e nic perhaps
18:53
<Freman>
I'd be able to pci-e the wifi card too if the damn video card didn't need such a huge heatsink... no-one sells a bog basic video card without tonnage any more? :(
19:10
<Freman>
For Motion 3.0 compatible mode choose: %Y/%m/%d/%H%M%S - oh so this will create the directories for me too? :)
19:51
<* mmm4m5m>
this driver is strange ... now v4l-info show info and looks like motion started but then kernel panic... I will try the other one tomorrow
20:17
<Criggie>
Freman: just sharing the benefit of my experience
